Q1 2016 Finish-A-Long

Hello again!

2016 FAL
Recently I was tagged on the Finish-A-Long on Instagram... I have done some investigating and I've decided to join the 2016 Finish-A-Long - it might give me a much needed boost to my sewjo (sewing mojo) and hopefully I'll complete a few projects too!!!  Anyway the first part of the Finish-A-Long is to post my proposed list of projects that I will finish in the first quarter... so here goes!
  1. Antique Flower Garden - pieced, quilted, bound... just waiting for me to hand sew the binding.

  2. Butterflies - appliquéd, pieced, quilted... just waiting for the binding to be added and then hand sewn.

  3. Flower Foundation Papers wall hanging... I started this years ago as a class to teach members at Point Nepean Patchworkers and Quilters how to foundation piece, others finished I never did!!!
  4. Swoon - blocks 1 - 3 are complete but my sewjo has disappeared for the others, I'm hoping to find it and get this one done in time for our first 2016 Challenge Group Meeting in February.

  5. My Favourite Things... I get so far and then stop at the last bit, I just have to finish putting this one together as all the blocks are finished.
  6. Christmas Bunting - this one was a dare with a friend, she won, I was all talk and not much action!

  7. Bunting House Pin Cushion by Cinderberry Stitches - I started this at a stitchery retreat and didn't do much more after the first day.
Long term goals for the Finish-A-Long is to get started on Carolyn Konig's Marriage Quilt BOM (I have been getting the monthly mail outs for a year now and not progressed beyond cutting out month one), working on my Judy Newman needle turn appliqué quilt, French Market Medallion, Fairyland by Natalie Bird, oh and let's not forget Farmer's Wife!  I'm sure there will be more added to the list - but that can be added to the Q2 2016 Finish-A-Long list!!

So if you are inclined to also join, I have included a link to the instructions on Mrs Sew and Sow's blog.

Antique Flower Garden

I know I have been quite slack in writing my entries but between classes, correction and my new challenge project I have been a very busy quilter.  Antique Flower Garden is finally finished and I have to say the the completed quilt is gorgeous.  Kathy, my Mum, has quilted the top and what she has done is amazing.  I have included a few photos of my favourite blocks.  I had always intended that this quilt would replace one of the quilts hanging in my lounge room but now that it is finished I have discovered that it is too large for the wall... Oh well I'll just have to make another quilt for hanging!

Challenge Group - finally finished!

After several late nights sewing, cutting, and more sewing I have finally finished my Antique Flower Garden quilt.  I have to say that until the final pieced border went on I was not really enamoured with it... glad I had learnt how to needle turn appliqué but not exactly in love with the almost completed project.  Anyway all those thoughts changed once the final border went on...  I have to say that I am happy with the completed quilt even though there is a giant mistake that I am not happy about but can't fix unless I take the whole thing apart.  However I am not going to point out the mistake cos everyone assures me that it is not that noticeable.  Is it obvious and they are just being polite?

In celebration of the end of the 2010 Challenge we went and had breakfast at Lintons Cafe in Mt Eliza where Trish was awarded the Challenge Group Trophy.  As the previous winner I was the treasurer this year and was horrified to realise that while 2nd last I had paid a total of $30 in fines, Nicky had paid $40 and Rachel only $5.  This meant that breakfast was cheap!  On the bright side it has made me all the more determined not to pay a single fine in 2011.  I have even started and almost completed my first block for the 2011 Challenge.  All will be revealed in my next post...
